죽음 Death

 

"죽음이란 또 하나의 위대한 모험이란다"

"죽음은 언제나 또 다른 생명의 탄생을 불러온다. 죽음이 있기에 생명도 있다"

부활을 앞두고 사순절이 되면 대학 떄 스케치 여행으로 다녀온 곳들이 생각난다. 특히 자그마한 교회에 목사님과 사모님께서 장식하신 제단의 꽃잎이 떠오른다. 부활을 위해 잘 죽어야 한다는 말, 꽃잎이 떨어져야 열매를 맺듯 말이다. 그때는 잘 이해가 가지 않았는데 이제는 자주 떠오르고 마음 깊이 느끼는 문장이 되었다. 우리 삶도 잘 죽어야 다시 태어날 수 있음을 꺠닫는다. 새로움을 받아들이며 이전의 나의 모습은 사라지고 다시 태어나는 '찬!란!한! 멸종'.

작가는 결국 이것을 이야기 하기 위해 연대기 순을 거꾸로 이야기 하고 지구와 달의 대화를 통해 그 시작의 혼돈이 결국 다양한 방향으로의 확장되고 진화되었음을 이야기 한다. 죽음을 통한 다시 태어남...자연과학 책을 통해 나를 바라보고 삶을 대하는 태도를 배운다.

As Easter approaches and Lent begins, I often recall the places I visited during my university sketching trips. In particular, I remember a small church, where the pastor and his wife had arranged petals on the altar.

"To rise again, one must first die well." Just as a flower must shed its petals to bear fruit.

At the time, I didn’t fully understand these words. But now, they come back to me often, resonating deeply in my heart. I realize that in our lives, too, we must die well to be reborn. Embracing the new while letting go of our former selves—this is the essence of Brilliant Extinction!

The author ultimately conveys this idea by narrating events in reverse chronological order, illustrating through the dialogue between Earth and the Moon how the initial chaos of creation led to expansion and evolution in diverse directions.

Rebirth through death… Through a book on natural science, I find myself reflecting on my own life and learning how to face it with a new perspective.
